Ekklesia Press was started in an attempt to get one book published, which was not deemed commercially valid by traditional publishers. I knew this book was valid in message and I wasn’t really worried about the commercial end of things. Often times the most valuable things in the ultimate sense are the least valuable in the commercial sense.
Every year authors submit more than 10,000 manuscripts to various publishers in this country with hopes that they might make it into print. Without judging the motives of those printing, writing or marketing books that actually make it to press, one can only wonder about all the others that didn’t. For sure some manuscripts are ill prepared, poorly conceived or in certain cases unworkable. However, I bet there are many books that are huge in the ultimate sense but overlooked because commercialism is the focus of most publishers.
Ekklesia is about values, but more importantly values upside down of the common publishing ways of thinking. Impact of a message, the launching of gifts (God given abilities) and standing as an alternative, are just some of what Ekklesia values. Money plays into things as it does for most any venture. This facet is down the list a number of notches instead of lurking behind every nook and cranny. Our approach will be to help authors succeed in not only getting into print.
Initially, this press is interested in works that will call the lethargic, drowsy, over-wrought and those put out with the status quo of organized church to get turned on for God once again. We want to encourage people to throw off the domination of being encouraged just to warm pews and throw money. We want people to find their giftings and actually use them… We want readers to come to the transformed perspective of the Ekklesia as being the Kingdom of God amongst the kingdoms of men, rather than the belonging of a building on a corner somewhere.
There are many different types of books: children’s books, fiction, non-fiction, study manuals, picture books, and countless others. While our initial focus is solid, well-researched, molar-jarring works that get God’s frozen-chosen moving again, the over all goal is to reach into other avenues of works that could be published to become an alternative. We will roll out other divisions as demand and preparedness come together.
